THE ART

It’s been an honour collaborating with the Jill Murphy Estate, bringing a collection of prints from the much-loved Large Family to life for the very first time.

Mrs Large the elephant is feeling a bit wibbly-wobbly - so decides the whole family needs to shape up with her. Biscuits and crisps are out, vegetables and jogging are in! But, when you're a hungry elephant... healthy eating and exercise is no piece of cake! A hilarious take on the challenges of living and maintaining a “healthy lifestyle,” full of Jill Murphy's characteristic warmth and humour.

Jill Murphy’s The Large Family series of books comprise wonderfully warm and relatable stories, Murphy’s acute observation of family life delighting both children and adults alike. Murphy’s art, each print telling its own story, makes beautiful framed prints for children’s bedrooms or nurseries.

THE ARTIST

Jill Murphy (1949 – 2021) was born in Surrey. Her father had a talent for drawing that he shared with Jill, regularly slipping illustrated notes into her school lunchbox, and her mother - previously a librarian in the Harrods lending library - had wanted to be a writer and did much to encourage Jill (who created her own library of hand-written and illustrated books to share with her friends).

Murphy’s first success came with the enormously popular The Worst Witch series, which went on to be repeatedly adapted for film, TV and the stage. The Bear Family (beginning with Peace at Last) and the Large Family (beginning with Five Minutes’ Peace) soon followed. Murphy’s picture books were successful both commercially and in terms of critical acclaim, her stories coupled with stunning illustrations reflecting the warmth and mess of family life.

THE PRINT AND FRAME

The print is framed by hand in Cambridgeshire in the UK, using only European sourced PEFC™ and FSC approved woods. Frames are Fine Art Trade Guild accredited which means they meet strict conservation standards and are built to last for generations to come.

We use Clarity+ glazing which is a high-quality acrylic glass alternative, offering high UV resistance which doesn't yellow over time, is not easily scratched and is safe for use in children's bedrooms.

Your framed print will arrive with D-rings and cord already attached, ready to hang right out of the box.

DIMENSIONS

Including the frame, with mount, the medium framed print is 55cm wide and 36cm high. 

The medium print itself is 45cm wide and 26cm high.
