THE ART

We are proud to present a collection of prints featuring the gorgeous, much-loved illustrations by William Nicholson for Margery Williams' timeless picture book The Velveteen Rabbit.

When the little Velveteen Rabbit arrives in the Boy’s Christmas stocking, he is the favourite present by far. But children can be fickle and it isn’t long before the shy soft toy is abandoned to his fate among the bigger and flashier mechanical and wooden toys in the nursery. Only the threadbare horse pays him any attention and shares the secret of how to become ‘Real.’

When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but really loves you, then you become Real. A twist of fate eventually returns the rabbit to the boy’s affections and it’s just a matter of time before his wish is granted. However, instead of finding the happiness he has dreamed of for so long, the Velveteen Rabbit’s adventures are only just beginning.

Margery Williams' timeless picture book classic has been read and cherished by many generations of children and their parents. We are delighted to present a range of prints which can be equally treasured for generations.

THE ARTIST

Sir William Nicholson (1872 – 1949) was a British painter of still-life, landscape and portraits. He also worked as a printmaker in techniques including woodcut, wood-engraving and lithography, as an illustrator, as an author of children's books and as a designer for the theatre.

In 1904 Nicholson designed the set for the original theatre production of Peter Pan. In addition to illustrating The Velveteen Rabbit, Nicholson wrote and illustrated his own two children’s books, Clever Bill (1926) and The Pirate Twins (1929).

THE PRINT AND FRAME

The art is printed on Hahnemaühle German Etching paper (310gsm), a conservation-grade high quality archival paper. This heavyweight etching paper has a fine surface texture and is one of the most popular media worldwide for higher quality artwork printing.

The print is framed by hand in Cambridgeshire in the UK, using only European sourced PEFC™ and FSC approved woods. Frames are Fine Art Trade Guild accredited which means they meet strict conservation standards and are built to last for generations to come.

We use Clarity+ glazing which is a high-quality acrylic glass alternative, offering high UV resistance which doesn't yellow over time, is not easily scratched and is safe for use in children's bedrooms.

Your framed print will arrive with D-rings and cord already attached, ready to hang right out of the box.
