THE ART

We are honoured to present a range of exclusive, never-before-been-available prints from David McKee's iconic picture book series Elmer the Patchwork Elephant. This print is from the original book, Elmer, first published in 1968.

Elmer the Elephant is bright-coloured patchwork all over. No wonder the other elephants laugh at him! If he were an ordinary elephant colour, the others might stop laughing. That would make Elmer feel better, wouldn't it? David McKee's comical fable about everyone’s favourite patchwork elephant teaches little readers to be themselves and celebrates the power of laughter.

Elmer remains one of the most iconic and widely read children’s book series of all time, selling over 10 million copies worldwide since it was first published by Andersen Press in 1989. Written and illustrated by celebrated children’s author and artist David McKee, the Elmer books have been translated into more than 50 languages, teaching children to respect others' differences and celebrating the virtue of being oneself.

THE ARTIST

David McKee is one of the world's best known illustrators of picture books, having created classics such as Not Now, Bernard, Elmer the Patchwork Elephant, and Mr Benn, Gladiator. David's work is published in over 50 languages and has sold tens and tens of millions of copies. David was born in Devon and studied at Plymouth Art College. In the early part of his career, McKee regularly drew and sold humorous drawings to magazines and newspapers such as The Times Educational Supplement, Punch and the Reader’s Digest.

THE PRINT AND FRAME

The art is printed on Hahnemaühle German Etching paper (310gsm), a conservation-grade high quality archival paper. This heavyweight etching paper has a fine surface texture and is one of the most popular media worldwide for higher quality artwork printing.

The print is framed by hand in Cambridgeshire in the UK, using only European sourced PEFC™ and FSC approved woods. Frames are Fine Art Trade Guild accredited which means they meet strict conservation standards and are built to last for generations to come.

We use Clarity+ glazing which is a high-quality acrylic glass alternative, offering high UV resistance which doesn't yellow over time, is not easily scratched and is safe for use in children's bedrooms.

Your framed print will arrive with D-rings and cord already attached, ready to hang right out of the box.

Including the frame, with mount, the framed print is 54cm wide and 36cm high.
