The art

We love this series of Tintin cover posters, in Hergé's distinct ligne claire drawing style, and in the original French as Hergé designed them.

The Blue Lotus (Le Lotus bleu in French) is the fifth volume of The Adventures of Tintin, the comics series by Belgian cartoonist Hergé. Continuing where the plot of the previous story, Cigars of the Pharaoh, left off, the story tells of young Belgian reporter Tintin and his dog Snowy, who are invited to China in the midst of the 1931 Japanese invasion, where he reveals the machinations of Japanese spies and uncovers a drug-smuggling ring. In creating The Blue Lotus, Hergé exhibited a newfound emphasis on accuracy and documentation in his portrayal of foreign societies. He was heavily influenced by his close friend Zhang Chongren, a Chinese student studying in Belgium, and the work both satirises common European misconceptions about China as well as criticising the actions of the Japanese invaders.

The artist

Georges Prosper Remi (1907 – 1983), known by the pen name Hergé, from the French pronunciation of his initials, was a Belgian cartoonist. He is best known for creating The Adventures of Tintin, the series of comic albums which are considered one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century. His works were executed in his distinct ligne claire drawing style and have been widely acclaimed for their clarity of draughtsmanship and meticulous, well-researched plots.

The print and frame

The poster is framed by hand in Cambridgeshire in the UK, using only European sourced PEFC™ and FSC approved woods. Frames are Fine Art Trade Guild accredited which means they meet strict conservation standards and are built to last for generations to come.

We use Clarity+ glazing which is a high-quality acrylic glass alternative, offering high UV resistance which doesn't yellow over time, is not easily scratched and is safe for use in children's bedrooms.

Your framed poster will arrive with D-rings and cord already attached, ready to hang right out of the box.
