THE ART

We are delighted to present a collection of framed prints from ‘Winnie-the-Pooh,’ the first time we meet the eponymous, lovable teddy bear who, along with his friends Piglet, Eeyore and Christopher Robin, is never far from adventure. For almost 100 years, Winnie-the-Pooh has delighted generations of children with tales of gentle humour, friendship and kindness.

A. Milne’s classic story is coupled with E. H. Shepard’s evocative drawings, which make beautiful framed prints for children’s bedrooms or nurseries. Milne and Shepard collaborated extensively when creating the first Winnie-the-Pooh book, rather than illustrator providing the artwork after the author had completed the narrative, as is often the case. From correspondence between them at the time, it appears Milne took a close interest in the illustration process, having Shepard’s illustrations returned to him with each batch of verses and occasionally replying with suggestions for new ones.

This collection of framed prints from the original book, first published in 1926, is a wonderful celebration of Winnie-the-Pooh, an essential part of our literary heritage to be enjoyed for generations to come.

THE ARTIST

E. H. Shepard (1879 - 1976) was born in St John’s Wood, London, son of Henry Donkin Shepard, an architect, and Jessie Harriet, daughter of watercolour painter William Lee.

A graduate of the Royal Academy Schools, Shepard became a successful illustrator, contributing to illustrated editions of Aesop's Fables, David Copperfield, and Tom Brown's Schooldays, while at the same time working as an illustrator for Punch (where he would go on to work for 50 years). Shepard was also a prolific painter, exhibiting at the Royal Academy of Arts on Piccadilly sixteen times.

THE PRINT AND FRAME

The art is printed on Hahnemaühle German Etching paper (310gsm), a conservation-grade high quality archival paper. This heavyweight etching paper has a fine surface texture and is one of the most popular media worldwide for higher quality artwork printing.

The print is framed by hand in Cambridgeshire in the UK, using only European sourced PEFC™ and FSC approved woods. Frames are Fine Art Trade Guild accredited which means they meet strict conservation standards and are built to last for generations to come.

We use Clarity+ glazing which is a high-quality acrylic glass alternative, offering high UV resistance which doesn't yellow over time, is not easily scratched and is safe for use in children's bedrooms.

Your framed print will arrive with D-rings and cord already attached, ready to hang right out of the box.

Including the frame, with mount, the framed print is 33cm wide and 41cm high.
