THE ART

It’s been a privilege curating a collection of prints from the fantastical classic Gorilla, written and illustrated by Anthony Browne. This stunning series of prints can only be found at Ralph & James.

Hannah loves gorillas but has never seen one. Her father's too busy to take her to the zoo - or for anything else come to that. For her birthday, Hannah asks her father for a gorilla - but is disappointed when she discovers that the gorilla she's got is just a toy one. But then something extraordinary happens in the night…

Once more elevating the picture book form into an emotionally affecting work of art, Browne’s heart-wrenching tale of a lonely girl, her indifferent dad and a magical night with the titular ape is a much loved classic. Browne’s full page, stunning illustrations make for beautiful framed prints, perfect for children’s bedrooms or nurseries.

THE ARTIST

Anthony Browne was born in Yorkshire. After studying at Leeds Art College, Browne worked as a medical illustrator and illustrator of greetings cards, before publishing his first book in 1976. Browne’s breakthrough came in 1983 with the publication of Gorilla, which earned Browne the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal (which he went on to win a second time with Zoo).

In 2000 Browne was awarded the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Medal, an international award given to an illustrator for their body of work. Browne was the first British illustrator to receive the award.

Anthony was the Children's Laureate 2009 - 2011 and used his time in the post to raise the profile of picture books and picture book illustration, as well as the value of supporting children's creativity and imagination.

THE PRINT AND FRAME

The print is framed by hand in Cambridgeshire in the UK, using only European sourced PEFC™ and FSC approved woods. Frames are Fine Art Trade Guild accredited which means they meet strict conservation standards and are built to last for generations to come.

We use Clarity+ glazing which is a high-quality acrylic glass alternative, offering high UV resistance which doesn't yellow over time, is not easily scratched and is safe for use in children's bedrooms.

Your framed print will arrive with D-rings and cord already attached, ready to hang right out of the box.

DIMENSIONS

Including the frame, with mount, the medium framed print is 45cm wide and 37cm high.

The medium print itself is 35cm wide and 27cm high.
