THE ART

This joyful collection of prints from the classic children's book Matilda will delight the imaginations of young and old alike.

Meet Matilda, an extraordinarily brilliant child who can move things with her mind. But her thoroughly ordinary and unpleasant parents couldn't be less pleased about their daughter's prodigious talents. Matilda's school isn't any more nurturing, for there presides Miss Trunchbull: formidable hammer-thrower and loather of very small children. Matilda soon discovers that she has supernatural powers, and both Miss Trunchbull and the Wormwoods will come to realise that they underestimate Matilda at their peril…

THE ARTIST

Appearing everywhere from greetings cards to hospitals and the National Gallery, Blake’s characters have become part of the fabric of British life and are some of the most instantly recognisable images in the world.

Born in London in 1932, Blake’s career as an illustrator started earlier than most, with his first cartoons for Punch appearing when he was just sixteen. Whilst teaching art, both at the Royal College of Art and at the prestigious Lycées Francais de Londres, Blake began illustrating children’s books in 1960 with A Drink of Water.

Since then he has gone on to illustrate more than 300 children’s books, including 18 for Roald Dahl, with whom Quentin has created iconic characters such as the BGF, Matilda and Willy Wonka. Blake’s innovative, seemingly spontaneous style is actually created through painstaking work using a light box to overlay a rough scene with repeated drafts until he is happy with the exact details of expression and interaction.

THE PRINT AND FRAME

The print is framed by hand in Cambridgeshire in the UK, using only European sourced PEFC™ and FSC approved woods. Frames are Fine Art Trade Guild accredited which means they meet strict conservation standards and are built to last for generations to come.

We use Clarity+ glazing which is a high-quality acrylic glass alternative, offering high UV resistance which doesn't yellow over time, is not easily scratched and is safe for use in children's bedrooms.

Your framed print will arrive with D-rings and cord already attached, ready to hang right out of the box.
